Mac Martini, one of two daughters and a son of Mac’s Only Iris racing Wednesday (May26) at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, was a 45-1 longshot winner in a $15,000 claimer for fillies and mares.

The four-year-old pacing mare, driven by Howard Parker and trained by Clarence Martin Jr., came from off the pace to win in 1:53.2, a new life mark by several seconds.

This was the seventh start of the year for Mac Martini and initial victory.

Mac Martini returned $100 and change for a $2 wager.
Earlier on the 16-race card, Mac Martian, a five son of Mac’s Only Iris, didn’t fare as well and finished last in a field of eight.
Mac’s Miss America, driven by Mike Simons and a three-year-old daughter of Mac’s Only Iris, finished fifth in a non-winners of two extended pari-mutuel races in Race 13.

Martin, Jr., who trains the standardbreds, collected a training double when City Tune, driven by Anthony Napolitano, came flying up the passing lane (Pocono Pike) to win a $7,000 claiming race for fillies and mares in Race 14 with a clocking of 1:54.1, another life mark.

It’s a family affair with the Martins since Mary Martin, wife of Clarence, and their daughter, Lisa, also help with the chores at the stable.

Having two daughters and a son on a same day’s race card may be a first for harness racing in Pennsylvania.(Pocono)
