Magical Man conjures fair stakes win

Return Home
August 13, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Magical Man and Stephane Bouchard took the lone New York State Fair Stakes division for colts and geldings Saturday afternoon at Tioga Downs, pacing in a lifetime best of 1:56.2.

Magical Man, a 2-year old son of Magical Mike, sat in the pocket behind Brian Cross and Rocker Hall, then used a :27.4 final quarter to get up and win by one length at the wire. Magical Man is owned by James Dunn of North Lewisburg, Ohio and is trained by Guy Howard.

Bettoronthebeach, piloted by Jim Morrill Jr., stayed a perfect three-for-three with a 1:57.2 win in one of four filly divisions, which was a new lifetime mark for the Chris Ryder trainee. The 2-year-old daughter of Bettor’s Delight is owned by The Bettoronthebeach Stable of Allentown, New Jersey.

In the $10,000 Open Handicap Pace, it was Life Sizzles and Dan Daley who used a grinding first-over move to get up and win by a nose in 1:53.4.

Ray Schnittker had the 3-year-old Tuffofthetoughest on the front end and got over to the half-mile pole in:57.3. It was a quick back half in :56.1 and a final quarter timed in :28 which allowed the 8-year-old to track down the sophomore pacer. Squaw’s Ebony Chip and driver Chuck Connor Jr. nailed down the show spot to round out the trifecta.
