Maine vote falls short

Maine's House on Tuesday failed to override Governor John Baldacci's veto of a bill that would have called for a statewide referendum on a new racino in the state, the Associated Press reported.



The vote, 77-63, was well short of the two-thirds majority needed to send the matter to the Senate.



Supporters of the racino are focused on a petition drive to get the referendum on the November ballot. They have until Jan. 30 to collect 50,519 voter signatures.
