The 2006 Canadian Harness Horse of the Year Majestic Son returned to the races Sunday afternoon at Hippodrome de Montreal and Trevor Ritchie directed the 4-year-old son of Angus Hall to a 1:54.1 victory in the $20,000(C) Invitational Trot.
Ritchie sent Majestic Son to the front and after being parked early secured the top at the opening quarter pole. They never looked back as he drew clear to a 2 1/2-length decision over runner-up Its A Fact Jack.
Trained by Mark Steacy and owned by the Majestic Son Stable, Majestic Son's 14-win sophomore season last year included victories in the Breeders Crown and Goodtimes. Sunday's win was his 20th in 33 career starts and increased his earnings to more than $1.66 million.
Also on the card, the 3-year-old colt trotter Val Taurus remained perfect in 10 career starts with a wire-to-wire 1:58.2 victory in a $9,000(C) contest for Quebec-breds. Mario Lachance was in the sulky behind the son of Taurus Dream.
Val Taurus won all eight of his starts last year at two and is now undefeated in both attempts in 2007. He is not eligible for the Hambletonian.
