Major In Art captures Woodrow Wilson final in 1:50.4

Major In Art dug in gamely after a backstretch duel to win the $350,000 Woodrow Wilson for two-year-old pacing colts on Friday night at the Meadowlands.

Major In Art, with Brian Sears in tow, put away the challenge of Get It Now before the three-quarter marker and held off a late bid by Mysticism for a three-quarter-length  tally in 1:50.4.  He paid $14.40 to win the night’s eighth race.  It was two and a half lengths back to Vertigo
Hanover in third.

“I knew I had a couple in there to beat,” Sears said.  “I thought I might be third best at least.  Eric [Goodell and Get It Now] came at me pretty hard and I thought about letting him go, but I knew he was a long shot so I used him as a blocker and it worked out well.  There were times when I asked him and he didn’t want to go and then there were other times I asked him a little differently and then he responded.  He’s just green and didn’t really know how to put it all together but he’s smart enough to get it done anyway.”

The son of Art Major-Miami Spice was sold for $4,000 at the Tattersalls Mixed Sale last January and then re-sold for $35,000 at last year's Harrisburg Yearling Sale to
Chester and Justin Lebo of Carlisle, PA.  He improved his record to three wins in four career starts. (Meadowlands)
