Malicious remained undefeated in five starts with a powerhouse performance in Monday night’s $56,900(C) Dream Maker Pacing Series final for 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers at Mohawk Racetrack.

Paul MacDonell put the strapping son of Bettor's Delight-Silky into action early from post seven in the eight-horse field and put up the first fraction in :27.1. He faced his first challenge in the second quarter from Ideal Location who prompted him through a :56 half before making a break in stride and being taken wide by driver Anthony Haughan.

At that point, Jody Jamieson tipped Whackamole Hanover, who had won twice in the preliminary legs, to the outside from third to go on the attack. The top pair were neck and neck at the third marker in 1:24.4 with Lake Shark appearing loaded with pace on the inside third.

As the field entered the stretch, MacDonell turned Malicious loose and the colt responded with a :27.3 final panel to stop the clock in 1:52.2. Lake Shark followed through at the inside to finish second with Whackamole Hanover holding on the for the show spot.

Malicious has yet to taste defeat in his young career for trainer Dr. Ian Moore who co-owns along with RG McGroup Ltd. of New Brunswick and Serge Savard of Quebec. The same ownership group captured the $300,000 Battle Of Waterloo final earlier in the day at Grand River Raceway with Wellthereyougo.

The victory boosted Malicious’s bankroll to just over $57,000. He returned a popular $3.10 for the win. Malicious is eligible to the $1 million Metro Pace at Mohawk with eliminations slated for Aug. 29. (WEG)
