Maltese Artist takes Levy

Maltese Artist enjoyed a perfect two-hole trip, behind the pacesetting Special Report, and scored in 1:51, capturing the $475,000 George Morton Levy Memorial Free-For-All Pace Saturday night at Yonkers Raceway.

Maltese Artist, trained by Mickey Burke and owned by Sylvia Burke, John Howard and J. Koran, settled in second as Special Report and driver Larry Stalbaum rocketed out post eight. Stalbaum forced a :26.2 first quarter and then hit the half in :54.4 and the three-quarters in 1:22.1 before heading into the short Yonkers straightaway.

Greg Grismore, driving Maltese Artist, didn't wait long to make his move and his horse pulled even and then drew clear to win. The victory was the richest of Grismore's career.

Special Report held on for second.

Maltese Artist has now won six of 12 start this year, but with victories in the Battle of Lake Erie and now the Levy, his bankroll stands at a hefty $462,175, making him the richest Standardbred thus far this season.
