Manzi reunited with Philos Hanover and the win felt so good

Philos Hanover and Cat Manzi made it a special reunion Sunday at Harrah's Chester Casino and Racetrack in the $40,000 Open Handicap Pace.

Philos Hanover left sharply from post five and controlled the pace with Toucam Sam (Eric Goodell) and Cinderella Guy (Daniel Dube) stalking behind. Cinderella Guy brushed to the front after a :26.4 first quarter leaving Philos Hanover with the garden spot. After a :55.3 half, Cinderella Guy fought off a first-over Total Truth (Tim Tetrick), who wasn't able to clear through three-quarters in 1:22.4. Manzi drew speed when he moved Philos Hanover to the open stretch winning by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:50.4.

The 5-year-old son of Cam's Card Shark, who had to be scratched last time out, proved champion today for trainer Joe Poliseno. "He had a bar crack in his hoof, we had to get him home and cut it out and train him back." Poliseno said.

The last time Philos Hanover and Manzi were together was on Aug. 17 at Harrah's Chester when the race leader Fake Denario N (Goodell) took a nosedive at the top of the stretch with Manzi following closely behind. Manzi's involvement in the accident forced him to become a spectator for six weeks while his broken collar bone and fractured ribs healed. Still the 58-year-old Manzi didn't hesitate to hook back up with Poliseno.

"He's a great horse. It felt good to pick up that win today," said Manzi. (Harrah's Chester)
