Toronto Maple Leafs’ president and general manager Brian Burke has been announced as the drawmaster for this summer’s 26th edition of the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup which takes place on Saturday, June 27, at Mohawk Racetrack. Burke, who was ranked no. 1 by The Hockey News in the magazine’s Annual GM rankings in March of 2008, managed the Anaheim Ducks from 2005-2008 and led them to their first Stanley Cup championship in 2007. He was named to the Leafs’ top job in late November of last season. Earlier last summer, he was named general manager of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, and was named a recipient of the 2008 Lester Patrick Award for outstanding service to hockey in the United States. Burke is known for telling like it is and is widely considered one of the most well respected and often quoted general managers in the National Hockey League. The draw for the $1.5 million Pepsi North America Cup will take place on Tuesday, June 23, also at Mohawk Racetrack.
