Marcus Johansson, who has been working as second trainer for his father-in-law, Jimmy Takter, told harnessracing.comFriday afternoon at The Red Mile that he is in the beginning stages of opening his own stable, which will be based in New Jersey. Johansson, a 29-year-old native of Malilla, Sweden, said he and his wife, Nancy, have already purchased three yearlings at the Lexington Selected Sale and plan on a few others before returning home.
Johansson also does some driving and he has won 483 races since first climbing into the sulky in 2000. His career purse earnings stand at $3.78 million.
"I'm looking forward to going on my own," said Johansson."I've had a good teacher in Jimmy so I'm ready."
