Eighteen-year-old Marcus Miller, the son of veteran trainer Erv Miller, scored his first-ever pari-mutuel victory Wednesday night at Hawthorne Race Course, directing the 3-year-old pacing gelding Arty Ryan to a 25-1 upset in 1:53.4. Marcus won his first two drives in June of 2004 (at age 15), romping by 18 lengths in each with the then 3-year-old filly pacer Prissy Lady. The first win came at In Wednesday’s race, Marcus was seventh at the half with Arty Ryan and still seventh at the three-quarters before rallying his charge with a final quarter of :26.4 to win by 3 ¼ lengths. It was Arty Ryan’s first win in seven career starts.
