King Of Kings, with 19-year-old Marcus Miller at the lines, swept up the passing lane and scored a 1:53.2 upset win in the $100,000 Maywood Pace Friday night. The move left Froggy Turner and Ryan Anderson second with Determine this and Brent Holland third. Miller and King Of Kings grabbed the early lead from post one before Determine this brushed into the lead on the backstretch, reaching the quarter in :27.3. Dave Magee moved Omaha Survivor into the first-over position with Anderson and Froggy Turner following. The half was in :56.4 and at the 1:25.2 third station Anderson tipped last year’s Orange And Blue winner three wide and came head-to-head with Determine this as the two colts hit the top of the stretch. That’s when Miller went the other way his 3-year-old Cole Muffler gelding to spring the upset by one-half length. Trained by Marcus’s father, Ervin Miller, King Of Kings notched his first victory of the year in five starts and fourth lifetime for owners Lloyd Arnold and Ron Michelon. King Of Kings was one of three horses in the race trained by Ervin Miller, including Determine This and the fifth-place finishing Big John C. King Of Kings won three of 11 starts last year, including the Governor’s Cup at Du Quoin.
