Street Dancer, with Andy Miller at the lines, pounced off a ground-saving journey to win the $88,700 Cape & Cutter final for open pacing mares on Friday night at the Meadowlands.

Street Dancer drafted behind My Little Dragon who engaged in a blistering duel with Stylish Solution that took the field to the half in :53.3. The race appeared to be wide open as the leaders folded on the final turn, but it was Street Dancer who rallied quickest of all to nail the lion’s share of the purse. With Miller finding room up along the pylons in deep stretch, she held off Ulrica Bromac N by a neck in 1:50.3, a stakes record, and paid $16.60.

“Ron (Pierce and My Little Dragon) was chugging along pretty good there and I was just following him and seeing what happens,” Miller said. “I was jammed in along the rail there and it was pretty tight there but I managed to squeeze through. She just exploded when she got through. She was loaded with pace and she just took off for me.”

Street Dancer surpassed $700,000 in earnings for the partnership of former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, Terry Rathgeber, Ted Lock and James Reynolds. Illinois-based Nelson Willis has trained the 5-year-old mare throughout her career. She won the $106,700 Overbid and was second in the $225,000 Lady Liberty while racing in Mark Silva’s barn at the Meadowlands in 2007. This year, she is racing in the care of Andy Miller’s wife, Julie, who has built a successful stable over the past two years at the Meadowlands.
