Hypnotize had the lead when it mattered most, thrusting her nose in front in the final yards of Friday’s $10,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace at Pompano Park to score her sixth victory of the season.

Driven from post six by Joe Pavia Jr. Hypnotize dropped back to seventh place while Flo Found George (Andy Santeramo) battled for the lead with Golden Falcon N (Daryl Bier), clearing that rival as the field entered the stretch for the first time, covering the opening quarter mile in :27.1.

As the pacers moved through the second turn, Hypnotize was angled to the outside by Pavia to flush out cover from Maresey Doats (Wally Hennessey), who in turn followed the first-over bid by Golden Falcon N, as Flo Found George took the field by the half-mile pole in :56.4.

Flo Found George and Golden Falcon N matched strides through a three-quarters split in 1:25, with Maresey Doats tracking that pair from third place, and Hypnotize right on her heels in fourth. Entering the stretch, Golden Falcon N began to weaken, sending Maresey Doats three wide and Hypnotize to the four-path.

Maresey Doats inherited the lead from Flo Found George in mid-stretch, but the mare was unable to hold off the late charge of Hypnotize, who rolled down the middle of the track to take the lead in the shadow of the wire, prevailing by a head in 1:53.4.

Hypnotize returned $3.20, $3.00, $2.10 for the victory. Maresey Doats paid $4.00, $2.20 for second, while Flo Found George brought in $2.40 for third.

Hypnotize is owned by Louis Diffenback, William Mack Jr., Lisa Diffenback and Jim Mattison, who also trains the mare. Friday’s victory was her sixth in 12 starts this year, all of which came at the Mares Open Handicap level.

Throughout her career, the daughter of Artiscape has visited the winner’s circle 20 times in 77 starts, and has a lifetime bankroll of $144,258. (Pompano Park)
