Casino Bus rolled down the stretch to win the $23,000 Mares Jr. Open. Tim Tetrick, who leads all drivers in North American, drove four winners to become the first driver in the sport to win 100 races in 2007.
Last Tuesday, Ross Wolfenden drove Yada Yada Yada A to the front on the way to a front-pacing 1:51.4 triumph in the feature. This time, the Armbro Operative mare came from off the pace to notch a 1:52.2 win holding off a late burst from Poppy Lustre N and Tetrick powering from seventh in the stretch to within a neck of the winner at the wire. Riddlemethat and Corey Callahan picked up a world of ground along the passing lane to finish third.
Tetrick gave Cavalli Pazzi Stable's Casino Bus a perfect two-hole trip on the way to a lifetime-best 1:53 victory in the $23,000 Mares Jr. Open Pace. While Art Stafford Jr. drove Dream-A-While into the lead and set the early fraction, Tetrick bided his time second until reaching the passing lane. In the stretch Casino Bus breezed on by to win for the second time in four starts this year. Ain't Goin Back, with Ben Stafford Jr., closed past Dream-A While to finish second.
Johnny Waite's Poker Mom hit the jackpot in the first of two $17,500 mares paces. Tony Morgan steered the Run The Table 7 year old home in 1:55.1 to beat Midriff (George Dennis) second and Evening Forecast (Ron Pierce) third.
In the second $17,500 division, Cat Power, with Jim Morand driving for Harness The Power and North State Street Stable, won for the second straight week, notching a 1:55.2 win. The Albert Albert 5 year old beat Tawny (Brad Hanners) to the wire with Western Miss (Tim Curtin) taking show honors.
Gary and Barbara Iles' Barb L Shop scored a wire-to-wire 1:55 victory to win a $14,000 mares 4- and-5-year-old pace. Tetrick drove the Badlands Hanover 5 year old to her second straight win. Au Dragon (Pierce) was runner-up. Bea St (Wolfenden) finished third.
Tetrick's fourth winner came in a last-step 1:55 win in a $13,000 mares pace for Hannah's Sunset and owners Sam Jacobs and Ron Reed. Boca Hanover (Pierce) led until the final step when Hannah's Sunset, who had finished second in her last three straight races, got up to win by a nose. Costly Legs (Curtin) took third-place honors.
Hopefull N, a recent New Zealand import by Preston Walls, Chad Tate and Steve Daugherty, won his U.S. debut impressively as Brandon Givens guided the Totally Ruthless 6 year old to victory in 1:54.2 in an $11,500 mares pace. Isn't She Fancy (Steve Warrington) was second best. Dee Dee King (Wolfenden) was third. (Dover Downs)
