Mares to meet at Pompano

Two of the top mares to have raced at Pompano Park this year, Chip And Gale A and Evere’s Connection, square off in the $10,000 Mares Open Handicap Pace Friday, with both coming off victories in their last start.

Chip And Gale A starts from post five for driver Daryl Bier and last week won the Open Pace closing from fourth place at the top of the stretch to win by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:54. It was the 12th win this year for the 9-year-old mare from Australia.

Evere’s Connection was able to lead from start to finish last week for driver Wally Hennessey, winning with ease by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:54.2. It was the 6-year-old mare's eighth win in 2006. Evere’s Connection will start from post three.

The well-matched field also features Wilma Hall from post eight for driver Brett Miller. Wilma Hall was third to Chip And Gale A last week. That loss snapped a three-race winning streak. Townline Lily, a 10-race winner this year, starts from post seven for driver Bruce Ranger and was second last week to Chip And Gale A.

Completing the field are Asian Paradise N (post one), Hyde Park Hussie N (post two), Race Me Valerie (post four) and Golden Falcon N (post six). (Pompano Park)
