Market Share went over the $2 million mark in earnings for the 2012 season with a victory in the $108,000 Galt Stakes at Maywood Park Friday night. He also set a track and stakes mark with his 1:54.4 victory by 3 1/2 lengths over Lindys Jersey Boy. Appomattox finished third while the pacesetter Prayer Session held on for fourth. Market Share's accomplishment makes him just the fourth trotter in the history of the sport to reach that plateau.
Market Share drew post five in the Galt and his regular driver, Tim Tetrick, allowed him to leisurely start the race, settling fourth in the field as Dave Magee left with authority with Prayer Session from post eight. Prayer Session quickly took command and set fractions of :28 and :56.4 before Market Share began to challenge. Tetrick pulled Market Share first-over going to the half and after rounding the bend the colt began his charge to the front. Before the last turn he was alongside Prayer Session and just before the three-quarter time flash (1:25.3) he edged past Prayer Session.
Market Share quickly cleared and slid over to the pylons and then was never threatened.
Trained by Linda Toscano and owned by Richard Gutnick, TLP Stable and William Augustine, Market Share picked up his 10th victory of the season in his 20th start. He's now won the Hambletonian, Canadian Trotting Classic, American National and Galt. He finished third in the Breeders Crown, behind Intimidate and Little Brown Fox.
