Marnie Hall wins Golden Girl

August 05, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Marnie Hall, runner-up to Burning Point earlier this year in both the Lady Liberty final and Roses Are Red final, and fourth behind that mare in the Breeders Crown, finally turned the tables with a strong first-over win in the $195,000 Golden Girls final Saturday afternoon at the Meadowlands.

Driven by Daniel Dube, Marnie Hall ground her way first-over past the half, taking aim at the leading Burning Point, who was sent to the top by driver Ron Pierce after an opening quarter of :26. Despite the tough overland trip, Marnie Hall was able to edge past Burning Point in the final strides to win by three-quarters of a length in a career-best 1:49. Born Storyteller was third for George Brennan.

"On the final turn she felt so good I didn't even have to pull the plugs," said Dube afterward.

A 4-year-old daughter of Blissfull Hall, Marnnie Hall's previous biggest victory was last year's $154,740 James Lynch final at Pocono Downs. Her Golden Girls win was her third of the year, increeasing the Walnut Hall Ltd.-bred's career earnings past the $535,000 mark
