Jimmy Marohn Jr. was injured in a qualifying race Wednesday morning at Monticelllo Raceway. The incident happened after the last qualifying race in which Marohn had finished third with Pvt Vinnia Fra. As the horses were pulling up after the race, Marohn's pacer fell and unseated him, and he was run over from behind.
Early reports indicate Marohn may have suffered a shoulder or collarbone injury. He was taken immediately to Community General Hospital in nearby Harris, N.Y., for further observation. He was taken off all his drives on the afternoon pari-mutuel card at the Mighty M.
Marohn, 27, won 257 races last year and was among the top five in races won at Monticello Raceway as well as copping the leader driver award at Tioga Downs last summer. More information will be posted when available.
