Marohn wins after layoff

Return Home
May 01, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Jimmy Marohn, who has driven the winners of 4,824 races, has bounced back with his first win since injuring a shoulder in early February. Marohn’s actual return to the driving wars was on April 25 and over the following days he reined a few horses that “hit the board,” but his comeback victory occurred Monday when he hustled 12-1 shot Vivacious Raider to a come-from-behind 1:57:3 victory in Monticello Raceway’s $14,300  Mares Preferred Pace.

Marohn was off to a good start  in 2007 but a accident in qualifying race at Yonkers Raceway in early February rendered  him with a broken shoulder which forced him out of action for well over two months. But now he has returned and is back at Monticello Raceway, where he began his illustrious career during the mid-1970’s.

His victory with Vivacious Raider came after he sat back off quick early fractions supplied by Casino Miss (Stephane Bouchard up) and Drinking Games(Jimmy Devaux). Marohn moved Vivacious Raider, a 7-year-old daughter of Keystone Raider, three deep in the final turn and she rallied down the center of the track to score a one-length triumph over Jezzabell  Hotspur.

“It really was a pleasant surprise,” Marohn said, exuberantly referring to his victory with Vivacious Raider. “The night before my wife May and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary and today (April 30) is May’s birthday. And to top it all off and I had my first win back at Monticello. It doesn’t get much better than this.”

Vivacious Raider  is owned by Michael Muller of Sparrowbush, NY and trained by Jimmy Posterino. Overlooked in the wagering Vivacious Raider paid  $27.80; $9.90 and $4.70 across the board.  (John Manzi for Monticello Raceway)
