Marshland, the 19th foal of the Bonefish mare Trapped, captured an elimination for Sweden's Olympic Trot this past weekend at the Jagersro track in Malmo, Swedent. Marshland, a 6-year-old stallion by From Above, took control of the race early and won in a mile rate time of 1:58.3 over 2,140 meters.
Marshland's dam, Trapped, was bred by Castleton Farm and then owned by Stoner Creek Stud before being exported to Sweden and joining the broodmare band of Margareta Wallenius-Kleberg's Menhammar Stud.
The Olympic Trot final, which will be helda t the Aby track in Gothenburg, could have a star-studded field. Maharajah, the runner-up in the Prix d'Amerique and Prix de France, is training for a possible start, and Lou Guida's top mare Lisa America is racing this weekend in Italy, which should clarify her upcoming schedule.
Orjan Kihlstrom, who recently drove Wishing Stone in France, was in the sulky behind Marshland. Although he had post eight, Kihlstrom decided to go to the front with Marshland. The early leader, Strong Boy DE, yielded after the first quarter. Marshland held off Beanie MN (Super Arnie), who was making his first start of the season, and then the late-rushing Strong Boy DE.
Marshland's sire From Above is a son of Zoot Suit and the mare A Gift From Heaven (Armbro Goal-Super Nice). Among Marshland's siblings is the first foal of Trapped, Traffic Jam S 2, 1:58.2; 3, 1:56.2 ($457,724), who finished second in the Acorn and Breeders Crown. Traffic Jam S is also the dam of Kramer Boy 3, 1:52.4 ($598,009).--By Lars G. Palm
