Marvel Sahbra got up in the final strides to win the Capital City Pacing series for mares on Friday night at Scioto Downs. The 9-year-old mare was clocked in 1:53.3.
Driver Kenny Kidd sent the 12-1 shot Danika Hanover to the front at the start of the race. When 2-5 favorite Cat Burglar and driver Chris Page came to call on the outside, Danika Hanover refused to yield. Dan Noble and Marvel Sahbra were sitting third in the pocket licking their chops with anticipation.
The pace was a brisk 1:24 to the three-quarters.
In an exciting homestretch drive, Marvel Sahbra got up by a nose to win for Noble, trainer Tommie Smiley, and owner Rick Gehron.
Danika Hanover hung on gamely to save second place while Shell I Attack was only three-quarters length back in third. Cat Burglar faded to fifth in the six-horse field.
Marvel Sahbra is by Towner’s Big Guy and paid $16.80 to win. (Scioto Downs)
