Maryland Sire Stakes at Ocean Downs

Return Home
July 28, 2011 | Print View

Ocean Downs played host to four $25,000 Maryland Sire Stakes (MSS) finals for 2 year olds beginning with a non-wagering event for filly trotters.  Tejano Chick pulled a big upset over Mrs Weasley  after that one made a break leaving the gate. Tejano Chick won by a neck in 2:12.4 and was driven by trainer Nick Coblentz who also owns the filly with Christopher Coblentz.

Also off the card was the pacing race for colts and geldings. Driver Corey Callahan sent In Front Charlie to the front and never looked back, setting a new sires stakes record at Ocean Downs for 2-year-old geldings  in 1:57.3. In Front Charlie is owned by Dr. William J. Solomon.

In the first race on the pari-mutuel card, GooGoo GaaGaa extended his win streak to three by taking the colt and gelding trot by 20 lengths, setting a MSS and Track record for Colt trotters of 2:00.1. This was also the fastest mile by any 2-year-old trotter at Ocean Downs. Jim Morand was the pilot for Owner and trainer Richard Hans.

Filly pacers went to post in the eighth race of the night, with Brite Jet and Rockin Roxanne renewing their rivalry. Once again Brite Jet, prevailed extending her win streak to three, winning by two lengths in 1:59.3 Ross Wolfenden has driven Brite Jet in all six of her starts for owners and trainer James and Carol Atkinson.
