Master Pine trots to lifetime best at Chester

Master Pine ($2.80), driven by Tim Tetrick, found the lead early and never looked back, holding off all competitors in the Liberty Bell late-closing series for trotters Monday afternoon at Harrah's Chester Casino and Racetrack.

Leaving aggressively for early contention, as did nearly the entire field, Master Pine settled in just behind eventual pacesetters Braggin' Rights (Eric Goodell) and Get Packin (Andy Miller), tracking them through a front quarter of :28. Tetrick angled the 4-year-old Master Lavec gelding out through the stretch the first time, clearing from Braggin' Rights at the three-eighths mark. He continued past the half in :57, unchallenged to that point.

Celtic Hall (Yannick Gingras) pulled from fourth just before the turn, and steadily advanced first-over up the backstretch. Within three parts of a length of Master Pine through three-quarters in 1:25.4, Celtic Hall gave a commendable effort.

"I felt pressure from Celtic Hall, but I felt we'd be alright,"said trainer Josh Green. "Tim seems to get along with (Master Pine)."

Through the stretch, Master Pine drew off from Celtic Hall by two and held off a late challenge from Jabez (Cat Manzi), stopping the timer in a lifetime-best 1:55. Jabez finished second, just one length shy, and Celtic Hall held third.

"He's gotten stronger and more mature," added Green. "He's just becoming more versatile."

Tetrick had six wins on the afternoon, also winning in the Liberty Bell with The Federalist (1:56.2). Manzi took the other division with Killer Whale (1:58).

In addition, two divisions of the Philadelphia Late Closing series were contested under starter conditions, with Glors Boys (1:53.2, Daniel Dube) and Desmet (1:55, Tetrick) both pacing to victory. (Harrah's Chester)
