Matron elims lead to a pair of career-ending starts for SBSW

Somebeachsomewhere, the leading candidate for 2008 Horse of the Year and for Canadian top honors, will close out a near-perfect racing career in the rich Matron Three-Year-Old Colt Pace at Dover Downs beginning on Monday as he will start in one of two eliminations.
 
Owned by the Schooner Stables of Nova Scotia, Somebeachsomewhere is one of 12 sophomore colts split into two $41,519 elimination divisions in the prestigious Matron, the last major stakes race of the year. The top four finishers in each elim will return on the following Monday, Dec. 15, for a $249,113 final.

Somebeachsomewhere drew post four in the second Matron elim, race 12. Jo Pa's Wild Card, and meet-leading driver Corey Callahan is in post one with Dragon King, with David Miller, alongside. Dave Palone drives Blueridge Western (post three), Proper Respect with Ron Pierce and Mystery Chase handled by Donnie Russell leave from posts five and six, respectively.

The first $41,519 elim, race 10, features Santanna Blue Chip and driver Jody Jamieson with the rail, Trade Editor with Andy Miller, post two, Pierce drives Dali from post four, with First Rate and Tim Curtin and Dina's Gamble piloted by Brandon Givens starting from the outside.

Somebeachsomewhere already has established four world records, and never went a bad race winning 14 of his 15 races this year and 20 of 21 starts in two seasons of racing and set the all-time single season's earning record, currently $2,448,003, during his brilliant career.

The powerful supporting card features two $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund finals for two-year-old pacers, a $26,000 Open pace, a $23,000 Winners-Over pace, a $15,500 Male pace, a $14,500 3,4&5-Year-Old pace, $13,200 Delaware 3-4&5-Year-Old Male pace plus two $30,000 Claiming paces on a stellar 15-race program.
