Max Of Maine, an unregistered Standardbred saved from slaughter in 2007, is the king of the Elvis Presley stable at the family’s Graceland estate in Memphis, Tenn. One of a family of six horses found in Maine and bought from a slaughter dealer in an effort lead by Carole-Terese Naser, Max’s plight caught the attention of Priscilla Presley who, citing Elvis’ love of horses, offered him a permanent home in the family stable. Max shipped to Graceland on Jan. 10, 2008 where he settled in to the eight-stall barn with other rescue horses and quickly became the stable’s star attraction. Also at Graceland is Sun’s Reflection, a descendant of Rising Sun, a Palomino once owned and ridden by Presley. The Graceland stables opened on May 27, 2009 for public tours and is the first new area of the estate opened to the public since 1998. For more information visit the official website www.elvis.com
