Ontario-based trainer Brad Maxwell, whose resume includes horses such as Elegantimage and Pure Ivory, has been named assistant coach for the Guelph Storm Hockey Club of the Ontario Hockey League. Maxwell, 49, played hockey briefly in the early 1970s before turning to training full time. According to a press release posted on the Guelph Storm website, Maxwell, who coached last year with the Cambridge Hawks, will actively be involved in practice as well as act as the Storm’s “eye in the sky” watching and analyzing games from the press box. Maxwell’s son, Brandon, plays goalie and was recently selected in the league’s Priority Selection by the Erie Otters in the second round as the 27th overall pick. Maxwell will make his coaching debut with the Guelph Storm when the team opens its season on Friday, Sept. 21, at home against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
