Trainer Bob McIntosh swept both divisions of the opening leg of the Whenuwishuponastar Pacing Series for 2-year-old pacing fillies on Thursday night at Mohawk Racetrack. The series is named after the former McIntosh star Whenuwishuponastar, who earned close to $600,000 while competing in the 1990s.
Lauren delivered as the heavy favorite in the first division. Lauren cleared to the lead past a opening quarter of :28.3 for driver Jody Jamieson. The daughter of Modern Art then set fractions of :58.1
and 1:27 before using a :27 final quarter to win in 1:54.2. McIntosh trains the filly, who remains undefeated in two lifetime starts for owners Gord and Claudia Wright.
Shoplifter Hanover finished second and McIntosh’s other entry, Day To Ponder, completed the triactor. Lauren paid $7.40 for the victory.
Another Bob McIntosh entry took the second division with Strike An Attitude delivering as the heavy favorite, winning in 1:53.3.
Leaving from post three, driver Steve Condren settled the daughter of Western Hanover fifth before the opening quarter of :27.4. Condren then used first-over tactics with fractons of :57.3 and 1:26.2. Condren and Strike An Attitude won by half a length over Artic Byrd and Rockratese. She paid $3.20. McIntosh co-owns Strike An attitude with Paul Ysebaert and CSX Stables. (WEG)
