McIntosh preps for fall

Return Home
June 01, 2003 | Print View

Although the majority of the 28 two year olds trainer Bob McIntosh started in baby races at Windsor Raceway on Wednesday (June 25) looked as if they were ready to begin their careers, don't look too soon to find their name on the entry sheets--especially in stakes events.

"I never paid them into anything early so I wouldn't be tempted and do something stupid; that's what it basically does," said McIntosh as the morning events were wrapping up. "Like that good-looking trotter ($300,000 yearling buy Cash Hall, who won under wraps in 2:03). I know he could go a big mile right now at the Meadowlands, but there's lots of money left for him."

McIntosh said his race scheduling is basically a two-year plan and that he targets his freshmen to be ready for the fall Grand Circuit meet at The Red Mile in Lexington. For Keith Carpenter of McIntosh's top client CSX Stables, which shares ownership of Cash Hall, that suits him perfectly fine.

"Everything we do as far as staking points to the fall," said Carpenter while walking back from the Windsor grandstand after the qualifiers. "There's nothing wrong with getting the early money, it's just a philosophy we've adapted because of Bob and it's worked for us."
