Racing at the Meadowlands has been canceled for Saturday night, Jan. 22, delaying the Presidential Series.
"All the weather forecasts indicate that by post time...we will be in the middle of a significant storm," said vice president and general manager Chris McErlean. "We're making this call early to accommodate our horsemen who ship from Central Jersey and from out of state."
The Meadowlands will be open for daytime simulcasting on Saturday but not for nighttime simulcasting. At this point, no decision has been made on the status of Sunday simulcasting.
The $50,000 second leg of the Presidential Series will be postponed to Saturday, Jan. 29. The rescheduled second leg of the Presidential will continue to be dedicated to tsunami relief. The Meadowlands and the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey will donate their share of the commission from the wagering on that race to the American Red Cross.
The $108,660 Presidential final, originally on Jan. 29, will be delayed a week until Saturday, Feb. 5.
