The Meadowlands and the Hambletonian Society have once again joined with Kings Super Markets to collect food items for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. The promotion will run during the Hambletonian Festival, from Saturday, July 26 through Hambletonian day, Saturday, Aug. 2.
Any guest bringing a non-perishable food item for live or simulcast racing during festival week will receive free admission and a souvenir item. For those making their donation on Hambletonian elimination day, July 26, they will receive free admission and a Hambletonian or Meadowlands souvenir item. First race post on Saturday is 7:00 p.m. This offer is good while supplies last. Guests bringing a non-perishable food on Hambletonian day, Aug. 2, will receive free admission and a coupon for a free Hambletonian baseball cap. Gates open at 9:30 am with the first race post time set for 11:30 a.m.
Last year’s Hambletonian Festival food drive yielded more than 700 pounds of food items for the FoodBank. “The harness racing community has been tremendously supportive of these events,” said Gordon Sulcer, who partnered the relationship between Kings and the Hambletonian Festival. “The response last year was overwhelming and we are looking forward to matching that this year.”
Kings Super Markets has long supported the Community Food Bank of NJ. The chain of upscale supermarkets has been a sponsor of the Breeders Crown and Hambletonian since 2003. They support the Hambletonian Festival with in-store posters, circulars and bagstuffers.
Collection boxes will be available at all entrances at the Meadowlands. The most needed items are grains and cereals, pasta, oatmeal, canned meats, peanut butter and canned fruits and vegetables.
