A large turnout for the Tattersalls July Mixed Sale at the Meadowlands race paddock Sunday, July 15, helped to boost sales as 88 horses sold for $1,502,800, a 16 percent increase over last year’s gross sales. The sale averaged $17,077 with a median price of $11,000.
“People need horses. There are racing opportunities so many places. I think the crowd was the best we’ve had at that sale ever,” said Geoffrey Stein, general manager of the sale.
Gospel 3, 1:59.4f, a 3-year-old daughter of SJ’s Caviar who was unraced at two, topped the sale with an $80,000 bid from George Hobbs of Harrington, Del. Preferred Equine Marketing consigned the filly who has two victories in six starts this year.
“The strength of the sale was across the board,” added Stein. The sale consisted of mostly 2, 3 and 4 year olds with a few older horses also included.
The total consignment was split between 63 pacers and 25 trotters with the pacers bringing a $17,811 average and the trotters averaging $15,228. Fillies and mares topped the sale by average with four trotters bringing a $27,875 average and 20 pacers averaging $19,410. There were 43 male pacers who averaged $17,067 while the 21 trotting horses averaged $12,819.
The top selling pacer was the 3-year-old Artsplace gelding Red Hot Yankee p,2, 1:55.1 who sold for $77,000 to Carmine Fusco. Consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing, he is out of a daughter of Simply Ravishing p,3, 1:54 ($547,035) and is eligible to several remaining top stakes.
