After posting strong business numbers for February, the Meadowlands has followed that up with even more gains in March as all sources wagering on the Meadowlands harness races during the month was $57.2 million, up 18 percent over the 2007 March total of $48.5 million. That figure covers all wagering from all common pool sites on the Meadowlands racing.
Through March, total wagering for this year on the Meadowlands harness product is $156 million, a 10.4 percent increase over the $141.3 million wagered in the first quarter of 2007. Live wagering on harness racing at the Meadowlands Racetrack is down, but according to Alex Dadoyan, Assistant Vice President of Racing Development & Distribution for the Meadowlands, “much of that is attributable to our Woodbridge OTW & internet/phone betting through New Jersey Account Wagering, which are both significantly ahead of plan.”
The New Jersey Sports Authority (NJSEA) operates the Meadowlands, the Favorites at Woodbridge OTB, and is a partner in the phone wagering platform, and total Meadowlands harness handle through all of those sources combined is $27.4 million, up 4.2 percent over the $26.3 million wagered first during the first quarter of 2007 at NJSEA facilities.
