Meadowlands Pace elimination winners Rockin Image and Rock N Roll Heaven will leave from posts two and three, respectively, in Saturday’s $1 million final at the Meadowlands. OK Commander, who was the winner of the third elim, was scratched earlier Wednesday prior to the draw after coming up lame due to an abscess in his right front leg.
The connections of the two Pace elim winners earned the right to pick their posts for the rich final. Rock N Roll Heaven, with John Campbell driving for trainer Bruce Saunders, has been installed the 5-2 morning-line choice by track handicapper Dave Brower. The son of Rocknroll Hanover won his Pace elim in 1:47.3. Rockin Image is the 3-1 second choice with Yannick Gingras driving for trainer Jimmy Takter. Rockin Image was a 1:48.4 winner in his Pace elim.
Pepsi North America Cup winner Sportswriter, who finished fourth in his Pace elim, drew post 10 for the final. Ironically, the outside post was the same starting spot in 2005 for American Ideal, trainer Casie Coleman's only previous Meadowlands Pace entry. American Ideal finished fourth in the final that year behind the winning Rocknroll Hanover.
