Meadowlands players benefited from a $7,147 bonus contributed by the track last Saturday when the Pick 4 pool fell short of the $75,000 guarantee. “It was pretty surprising to see the total Pick 4 pool was just under $68,000,” said assistant vice president of racing development and distribution Alex Dadoyan. “We had been averaging over $94,000 on Saturdays this year and really hadn’t fallen below $85,000 in months. But, it’s a good thing for the players. It gave bettors a bit of an extra boost in payoff and reassures everyone that they’re going to be betting into big pools every week.” The winning Pick 4 combination of 5-3-7-10 paid $991.70 for a $1 wager. Without the added money, the payoff would have been $901. “Any time there’s a carryover in our Pick 6 or a shortage in a Pick 4 guaranteed pool, bettors are wagering into pools that essentially have a lower takeout,” Dadoyan said. “This past Saturday, $67,852 was bet, and after the normal 15 percent takeout on the $75,000 guaranteed pool, $63,750 was paid out. That’s an effective takeout for the players of only six percent. You don’t see that very often in racing. In fact, there are some nights with our Pick 6 carryovers where there’s a positive expectation for the bettors--where more money is paid out than was wagered that night.” The Pick 4 is offered on races six through nine each night at the Meadowlands and features a $35,000 guaranteed pool weekdays and $75,000 on Saturdays. Through the first 99 racing days, the average payoff for the Meadowlands Pick 4 has been $3,195 for the $1 base wager. (Meadowlands)
