Driver Dave Palone, the leading driver in Palone, 46, won the first race with Won The West, and then won seven consecutive races from the third race through the ninth race, including a $39,000 late-closer final with PW Roman Lover. That marks Palone’s career high for consecutive wins, having also won seven straight at The Meadows March 2, 1993. He then wrapped up the card with wins in the 11th, 12th and 14th race.
Palone also set the record for most 2:00 victories on a single card with 11, eclipsing the previous mark of 10 he shared with Greg Grismore and Walter Case Jr.
“I had a lot of power today,” Palone told harnessracing.com by cell phone just moments after completing his 11-win afternoon. “This is my best start ever, but I’m getting more opportunities because we’re racing more races every day.” Palone started Monday with a 14-win lead over Tim Tetrick and Tony Morgan, who were tied for second with 248 victories apiece. Palone admits he has a tough task maintaining his number-one spot, a lead he remains realistic about. “I'd love to hang onto it as long as I could, but I think it’s inevitable because we only race four days a week and I don't get as much work as Tony and Timmy,” said Palone, who has won 500 or more races a record 16 years in a row and has more than 12,100 wins for his career. “I think it’s just a matter of time before Tony and Timmy run me down.” Twice in his career Palone won 10 races at The Meadows—Sept. 11, 1999, and July 6, 2002, a number shared with Case (twice), David Miller, Grismore and Brett Miller. The record for most wins in one day at a single track belongs to Mike Lachance, who won 12 over a doubleheader program at Yonkers Raceway June 23, 1987.
