The Meadows Standardbred Owners Association has announced the winners of the 2009-10 MSOA Collegiate Scholarships. Three students will share a total of $6,000 in awards for the upcoming schoolyear.

Chelsea Fahy, of Washington, PA, is the recipient of a $2,500 scholarship.  She will attend the University of Findlay this fall as a freshman and plans to major in Pre-Veterinary Medicine major. Her father, Bill, is a trainer/driver at The Meadows, while her mother, Moira, is an owner and trainer.

Ashleigh Altmeyer, a senior at the University of Pittsburgh, is also receiving a $2,500 MSOA Scholarship. The Kittanning, PA resident is the daughter of Jeff and Teresa Altmeyer, horse owners at The Meadows. Ashleigh is studying Psychology and Pre-Occupational Therapy.

Shawn Harvey is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from the MSOA and LCM Nutraceuticals. The Imperial, PA resident is the son of trainer Leo Harvey and Kathy Harvey. He is the grandson of longtime trainers Harry Harvey and Walter "Boots" Dunn. A Marketing major, Shawn will be a sophomore this fall at West Virginia University.

"All three of these individuals have longstanding ties to The Meadows," said MSOA President Richard Gillock. "We are happy to be able to give each of them a chance to further their education. All three come from great racing families."

The MSOA worked in conjunction with the Harness Horse Youth Foundation, which reviewed the applications and administered the scholarship awards. (MSOA)
