Absent from The Meadows' winners’ circle for an uncharacteristically long spell, Jans Luck made amends Thursday when she captured the $25,000 Filly and Mare Preferred Handicap Pace in 1:51.3, equaling the track record for older mares. Jans Luck had won 21 races—most of them at The Meadows—over the past two seasons but hadn’t triumphed since March 19, an unusual drought for her. That ended Thursday when Dave Palone hustled her to the pocket, then made a decisive quarter-pole move. She defeated Natalie by a length, with Streetcarnamedsire a non-threatening third. Her mile, featuring matching :55.4 front and back halves, equaled the mark established by Always Cam in 2004. Ron Burke trains Jans Luck, a 5-year-old daughter of Camluck-Jans Scooter, who pushed her career bankroll to $650,978 for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, JJK Stables and M1 Stable. It was one of Palone’s seven victories—four for Burke—on the 15-race card. (The Meadows)
