The Meadows will not be racing April 1 through April 14, and during that time the finishing touches will be put on the new Meadows Racetrack & Casino, which is now scheduled to have its grand opening at 10 am on Wednesday, April 14. The new $175 million permanent casino is one of the largest on the East Coast. The opening date is contingent upon a successful testing of the casino and final approval by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).
An invitation-only testing of the casino will be held from 11 am to 5 pm Monday, April 13. Proceeds of the testing will benefit local volunteer fire departments. The Meadows does not receive any revenue from the testing.
The 350,000-square-foot casino will feature more than 3,700 slot machines and integrate the long-standing tradition of harness racing at The Meadows with state-of-the-art gaming facilities. It also will provide eight restaurants, including Bistecca, an exciting Italian steakhouse that will feature exquisite food and breathtaking views atop the casino. Renowned Pittsburgh-area chef
Greg Alauzen of The PIPA Group will oversee Bistecca.
Located on the casino level are both The Terrace Café and five specialty micro-restaurants in The Meadows’ Food Court. The Terrace Café will feature classic American cuisine from coast to coast, as well as international favorites. With seating for 450, the café will provide guests with Italian, Southwest, Greek, Creoleand local regional specialties. Homemade soups, fresh salads, overstuffed sandwiches, zesty appetizers, juicy steaks and seafood all will be on the menu.
Plans also include a boutique-style bowling alley that promises to capture the growing popularity of the sport, but in a setting that will create a nightclub feel. It will feature a creative menu and stylish lounge space.
The Meadows is owned by Cannery Casino Resorts (CCR), which is investing more than $450 million into the property. (The Meadows)
