The planned June 5 opening of the new slots parlor at The Meadows has been delayed. The racetrack issued the following press release Wednesday:
Meadows Racetrack & Casino officials have delayed testing nights of its new casino and have put its grand opening temporarily on hold. The delay is necessary to allow for final enhancements to be made to the Meadows' security system. Once this process is complete, new dates will be announced for test nights and the grand opening.
"Our construction team has done a tremendous job of building a first-class casino from the ground up in only six short months," said Bill Paulos, a principal of Cannery Casino Resorts, which owns the Meadows. "The progress has been unbelievable, so delaying our opening a few days to make sure everything is ready is the right thing to do. We're excited to open and expect to do so soon. Judging by the interest we've had in our Players Club, our potential customers are excited too. More than 10,000 people have signed up before we've even opened our doors. We are looking forward to providing our visitors and guests with a world-class, fully integrated gaming experience at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino." Proceeds from the test nights will benefit the Greater Washington County Food Bank and the Washington Hospital. (The Meadows)
