Two-year-old fillies took center stage in six elimination races for the Merrie Annabelle Trot and Sweetheart Pace on Thursday night at the Meadowlands, and Honorable Daughter led the Merrie Annabelle fields as she trotted to her fourth straight victory in as many starts, scoring in 1:55.4 for driver John Campbell and trainer Larry Remmen.
Honorable Daughter, a daughter of Malabar Man, coasted to an easy victory and was the fastest of four $20,000 Merrie Annabelle eliminations. Pleasing Lady and Winlite also moved on to the $523,600 final on July 31. Dover Miss, a daughter of Andover Hall, took the first Merrie Annabelle split over Neith’s Song in 1:57.1, trotting a final panel in :28.1 for driver Mike Lachance and Ron Gurfein.
The second split went to Seaside, a filly by Yankee Glide, who hit the timer in 1:57.1 as she rebounded from miscues in her last two starts to win for driver David Miller and Jonas Czernyson. The favorite, Gabbys Dream, finished second off a pocket trip.
Broadway Schooner, a filly by Broadway Hall, wired the field in 1:56.1 in the third split. John Campbell steered the homebred filly to her first career win for his brother, trainer Jim Campbell. The runner-up was I Wanted Wings, and third-place finisher Margarita Momma also advanced to the Merrie Annabelle final.
