Aaron Merriman, the leading dash-winning driver in North America, suffered what is believed to be a broken wrist in a multi-horse accident Friday afternoon at The Meadows. Merriman was driving Sound Dragin in the 11th race and was first-over with the horse when he made a break and fell, with several other horses then getting involved.
Reports indicate Merriman and Ray Paver were the only drivers to suffer injuries; both were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Other drivers involved in the spill were Richard Stillings, Tony Hall and Kyle Bolon, with four horses not finishing the race.
