Harnessracing.com has learned the Metro 6 Shooter, a joint pick-6 wager offered Saturday nights on races at the Meadowlands and Yonkers Raceway, has been canceled. Seeded weekly with $30,000 from the Standardbred Owners Association of New York and Yonkers Raceway, the bet began June 5 but lasted just five weeks as it could not gain momentum of a carryover as there was at least one winning ticket every Saturday.
The first Metro 6 pool on June 5 reached $64,477 (including the $30,000 seed money), with one winning six-for-six ticket returning $43,181, in addition to the weekly five-of-six consolation tickets that were guaranteed. On June 12, the pool increased to a high of $77,243, with again just one winning ticket worth $50,897..
But since the second week the pool has diminished gradually. On June 19, the pool was $74,641, with 48 winning tickets returning $1,027 each. On June 26 the pool was $70,461, with 16 winning tickets that paid $2,937 each. On July 3, the pool dropped to $63,222, and despite two of the six winners paying at odds higher than 10-1, and another 6-1 shot, there was still one winning ticket that paid $45,625.
