The Friday online edition of The Miami Herald reviews the situation of harness racing at Pompano Park, and tells of a private deal between Pompano Park representatiaves and former State Representative Jack Seiler, now the mayor of Fort Lauderdale, which effectively kept protections for harness racing out of the legislation which permits slots at the track.
In addition, a Pompano lobbyist told the Herald that a guarantee for the horsemen's percentage of slot revenue for purses shouldn't be required, that the track owner "shouldn't be put in the position of having to deal with them with a gun to our head."
