Michelle's Power, Hana Hanover take Garnsey divisions

Michelle's Power parlayed a two-hole trip from driver Jody Jamieson into a victory in the first of two divisions of the $301,500 Glen Garnsey Memorial Pace for 3-year-old filly pacers on Friday afternoon at The Red Mile, while Hana Hanover won the second division.

Jamieson left from post seven, taking the early lead heading into the first turn. Brian Sears pulled Lady Mattgalene from third at the :28.3 quarter pole to take the lead as Jamieson was content to sit the pocket trip. Lady Mattgalene led to a :55.3 half and was approaching the 1:23.4 three-quarters when Jamieson angled his charge to the outside and up at the leader.

Michelle's Power surged to the lead and then had to fend off the challenges of Little Miss Dragon and driver John Campbell and the Ron Pierce-driven Tidewaterdragonfly. She stayed game and earned the victory, her seventh of the year in 14 starts.

"All week I've been staying a little bit long and getting doubled up, and you just hurt your horse's momentum. I wanted to give her a clear shot at it," said Jamieson about pulling the pocket in the final turn.

Fresh off her world-record 1:49.2 win last week at The Red Mile, Hana Hanover posted a dead-game 1:49.3 victory in the second Garnsey division. George Brennan moved Hana Hanover to the lead down the backstretch and withstood heavy pressure on the outside to get the victory, although it was a narrow decision as Isabella Blue Chip and Mind Boggling came charging late to make it a blanket finish.

Hana Hanover had enough left to earn her seventh win of the year in 11 starts while Isabella Blue Chip, who fought foot problems earlier in the year, settled for second. Mind Boggling was a close third.

A daughter of Western Hanover, Hana Hanover is owned by David Reid, David McDonald, Stan Klemencic and Malcolm G Man Son Hing. Her career earnings now stand at $479,977.
