The board of directors of Standardbred Canada has voted to revoke the 2007 O'Brien Award presented to Michelle's Power as the 3-Year-Old Filly Pacer of the year as a result of her testing positive for darbepoetin-alfa (DPO) last August and now honor Hana Hanover. The decision was recommended by the Standardbred Canada (SC) O'Brien Awards Committee after the Ontario Racing Commission announced the positive April 29.
The O'Brien Awards have a policy which reads: Any horse that receives a positive test for a Class I, II, or III drug during the calendar year or at any time prior to the presentation of the Awards is not eligible for an O'Brien Award. Outstanding appeals and/or stays do not alter the conditions of eligibility for O'Brien Award consideration.
Hana Hanover placed second in voting last year, thus she will now be recognized as the O'Brien Award winner. Her connections will be presented the O'Brien Award trophy at an upcoming stakes event.
