Longtime Michigan-based horseman Charles "Chuck" Jordan, the father of East Coast-based horseman Mark Jordan, died Saturday, Jan. 30, at his home in Portage, Mich. He was 84.
A native of Springfield, Ill., Mr. Jordan was the trainer of several well-known horses, including the trotter Final Notice, who competed against Nevele Pride, the $150,000-winning pacer Pay Taylor, who competed against Albatross and went on to a stallion career in Michigan, the trotter Winter Storm, who raced against the likes of Grandpa Jim, and the trotter Arrow Smith.
Mr. Jordan retired from racing in 1996, and until that time had been winter training young horses sent to him by his son, Mark, in Hawkinsville, Geo.
Mr. Jordan is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois; three children, Wayne, Mark and Melissa; and four grandchildren, Chip, Allison, Brandon and Madison. He was preceded in death by two children, Stephanie and Charles Jr.
Funeral services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice in Mr. Jordan's name.
