Veteran Michigan horseman Norm Forsyth died late Sunday night at the Tuscola County Medial Care Facility in Caro after a battle with cancer at the age of 76.
Mr. Forsyth was a long-time member of the United States Trotting Association and a lifetime member of the Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association.He served on the board of directors of the MHHA from 1993–2001 as the Executive Committee member. He was an owner, breeder, trainer and driver of Standardbreds for many years and compiled lifetime driving earnings of $1,606,095 in over 30 years of driving.
Some of his prominent horses were Minnie Sonnett 2:00.2h ($62,778); Awesome Sonnett 2:03.1f ($15,204); Home Stretch 3, 1:56.2f ($28,562); Mae Sonnett 1:57.3 ($39,815); and Millington 3, 1:58.2f ($131,914).
Mr. Woolworth is survived by his companion and business partner of many years, June DuRussel; a son, Brian Forsyth; and many other relatives and close friends.

A horseman’s memorial walk will be conducted at Sports Creek Raceway on Sunday, Jan. 20 after the 5th race on the 1:30 p.m. card. (with files from MHHA)
