Michigan Racing Commissioner Christine White, whose forced budget cuts have severely impacted racing in that state, has notified Gov. Jennifer Granholm that she is resigning her position to take a job with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In a memo sent to staff members, White said her resignation is effective at the end of this week and she will be starting her new job on Monday, July 6. White will become Michigan state executive director for the Department's Farm Service Agency, based in East Lansing. “Horse racing is an interesting industry. I think I've said that almost every day that I have been commissioner. It is an industry in a state of flux and it will continue to change until it reaches a point of sustainability. Hopefully that will be in the near future,” White stated in the memo. Having to cut more than a million dollars from her budget, White last month ordered the immediate reduction in racing dates at both Hazel Park Harness Raceway and Pinnacle Downs Thoroughbred track.
