Mighty Moses and driver Jim Morand had to go four wide to win the Open Trot at Dover Downs Wednesday night in 1:56.1.

The 6-year-old son of Garland Lobell sat back early through fractions of :27.1 and :56.3 behind pacesetter R.C. Destiny (Donato Poliseno). Morand then pulled Mighty Moses three wide with cover to the three quarters in 1:26.1. After the cover faded, Mighty Moses made a sweeping move to win by 1 ¾ lengths.

The win is the first this year for the Eric Ell trainee. He is owned by William Wood, Betsy Wood, William Ditmar Jr. and Stephen Iaquinta. The gelding now has just short of $300,000 in lifetime earnings.

In the first leg of the Junior Open Trot at Dover, favorite Sullivan Blue Chip (Mark Gingrich) pulled at the quarter and never looked back, winning by 3 ¾ lengths in 1:56. The 7-year-old gelding by El Paso Kash is owned by George and Marjorie Shubley and trained by Mark Lancaster.

In the second leg of the Junior Open Trot, Jersey Gal and Ross Wolfenden pulled off the upset, winning by a neck in 1:56.4. Going off at 16-1, the 4-year-old daughter of Malabar Man came home in :29.2 to edge out favorite Willie T (Howard Davis Jr.). Bullville Sue (Tim Curtin) was third.

Jersey Gal is owned by William Jr. and Joan Venebles and trained by Richard Lewis.
